You have the venue.
The photographer is booked.
Your planner has the timeline.
Hair and makeup are scheduled.
And, of course, you have THE dress.
But here’s the question I want every bride to ask before wedding day:
Who’s actually handling the dress?
And no, I’m not talking about who is bringing it to the venue.
I’m talking about everything that happens between taking that gown out of the garment bag and walking down the aisle.
Because there are a lot of little details that nobody thinks about—until somebody needs to handle them.
Let’s talk about 10 of them.
1. Who Is Steaming the Gown?
Please don’t wait until wedding morning to figure this out!
Depending on the fabric and construction of your gown, proper preparation matters. The dress, veil and other garments should be photo-ready before you ever begin getting dressed.
Someone needs to own this responsibility.
2. Who Knows How to Get You Into the Dress?
Some gowns are simple.
Others have corsets, buttons, hooks, layers, intricate closures and details that require patience.
Your wedding morning shouldn’t turn into five people standing around asking, “Wait…where does this go?”
During your final fitting, make sure someone understands exactly how your gown should be put on and secured.
3. Who Is Placing the Veil?
Where the veil is positioned can change the entire look.
Your hairstyle, veil length, comb placement and overall bridal vision should all work together.
This isn’t something you want to figure out five minutes before walking down the aisle.
4. Who Is Checking Your Accessories?
Earrings? Check.
Necklace? Check.
Bracelet? Check.
But are they sitting correctly?
Is your necklace centered?
Is a clasp showing?
Are your earrings competing with another accessory?
Sometimes it’s the smallest detail that catches your eye later in a photograph.
5. Who Is Watching the Train?
Your train is gorgeous when it’s perfectly placed.
But you’re going to move.
You’re going to take photographs.
You’re going to walk.
You’re going to sit.
You’re going to hug people.
Someone needs to be watching how that train falls throughout those important moments—especially during portraits.
6. Who Knows Your Bustle?
This one deserves a conversation BEFORE wedding day.
Whether your bustle has three points or fifteen, someone should know how it works before the reception.
Take pictures or video during your final fitting, and make sure the person responsible for helping you understands exactly what to do.
Because figuring out a complicated bustle while your reception is happening downstairs?
No ma’am.
7. Who Has the Bridal Fashion Emergency Kit?
Fashion tape.
Safety pins.
Sewing supplies.
Stain-removal essentials.
Extra earring backs.
Static control.
And yes, there are a few other things I keep in mine.
Something unexpected can happen even when you’ve planned everything beautifully.
The goal isn’t to expect something to go wrong.
It’s to be prepared if it does.
8. Who Is Doing Your Final Photo-Ready Check?
Before your first look.
Before bridal portraits.
Before walking down the aisle.
Before family photos.
Someone should take a few seconds and look at the complete image.
Gown.
Veil.
Train.
Jewelry.
Shoes.
Hair.
Overall placement.
Your photographer is there to capture the moment. Having someone focused specifically on your image helps make sure you’re ready when the camera starts clicking.
9. Who Is Helping With Your Second Look?
If you’re changing into a reception dress, jumpsuit or another look, decide beforehand who is helping you.
Where will the second outfit be?
Where are the shoes?
Where are the accessories?
How much time is allotted for the change?
Who’s helping you out of the gown?
Those ten minutes can quickly become thirty without a plan.
10. Who Is Paying Attention While YOU Enjoy Your Wedding?
This may be the most important one.
You shouldn’t spend your wedding day thinking about any of the previous nine things.
You should be laughing.
Taking pictures.
Holding your partner’s hand.
Hugging your people.
Dancing.
Being present.
You should be experiencing the day you worked so hard to create.
Your Bridesmaids Aren’t Your Styling Team
I know we love our girls.
And absolutely, there will be moments when your bridesmaids want to help.
But they also got dressed for your wedding. They want to celebrate you. They want to be in the pictures. And chances are, they aren’t professional stylists.
The same applies to Mom.
Let the people you love experience the day with you.
This Is Why Wedding-Day Bridal Styling Matters
