Becoming Her: Fashion, Faith, Family, and the Beauty of Pivoting
There is something about summer that invites us to pause, reflect, and rediscover ourselves.
The season is filled with bright colors, lighter fabrics, and fresh trends, but if I'm being honest, this summer has been about much more than fashion for me. It has been about transformation. About releasing what I thought my life would look like and embracing what God is revealing instead.
As an Image Consultant, I love talking about summer style trends. The effortless linen sets. The vibrant colors. The statement accessories. The pieces that help women feel confident and beautiful. But what I've learned over the years is that style is never just about the clothes.
Style is about discovering who you are in the season you're currently in.
And sometimes that requires a pivot.
This year has reminded me that pivoting isn't failure. It isn't giving up. It is having the courage to move forward when life takes an unexpected turn. It is trusting that the woman you are becoming deserves the same love, grace, and patience that you so freely give to others.
For me, that journey has included learning to love myself more deeply. Not because everything is perfect, but because I have learned that my worth is not connected to a title, a relationship, a plan, or an outcome. My worth comes from knowing whose I am.
That lesson has shown up in every area of my life.
It showed up as I watched my daughter, Kahlia, walk across the stage and graduate from North Carolina A&T State University. Watching her earn her degree was one of the proudest moments of my life. To witness her growth, determination, and commitment to her dreams reminded me that every sacrifice, every late-night conversation, every prayer, and every moment of encouragement mattered.
It also showed up in motherhood with my son.
Raising a young Black man in today's world comes with its own set of challenges. There are moments filled with pride, moments filled with concern, and moments that require faith bigger than fear. As mothers, we often carry the weight of protecting our children while simultaneously preparing them to navigate a world that may not always understand them. Through it all, I continue to pray, advocate, guide, and love him fiercely.
This season has also brought exciting changes in business.
PE Image Consulting is entering a new chapter through a thoughtful rebrand that better reflects the work I love most. While image consulting will always be at the heart of what I do, there has been a beautiful shift toward bridal styling and supporting women during some of the most meaningful moments of their lives.
There is something incredibly special about helping a bride prepare for her wedding day. It goes beyond the dress. It goes beyond the accessories. It is about helping her feel confident, calm, and fully present as she steps into a new chapter.
In many ways, bridal styling has reminded me of the power of loving love.
Not just romantic love.
The love between family members.
The love shared between friends.
The love found in community.
The love we learn to give ourselves.
The love that continues to show up even when life doesn't go according to plan.
Perhaps one of the greatest gifts this season has given me is a deeper appreciation for sisterhood.
Of course, I am grateful for my sorority sisters and the incredible women who continue to pour into my life through Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Their support, encouragement, wisdom, and friendship have been a gift.
But this season has also reminded me that sisterhood extends far beyond organizational boundaries.
Sometimes sisterhood is found in the woman who checks on you when she senses something is wrong.
Sometimes it's found in the stranger who offers an encouraging word at exactly the right moment.
Sometimes it's found in the women who show up, pray for you, support your dreams, celebrate your wins, and hold space for your healing.
Some of the women who have become family in my life started as complete strangers.
And for that, I am incredibly grateful.
As I look ahead to the rest of this year, I don't have all the answers.
What I do have is faith.
Faith that every pivot has purpose.
Faith that every ending creates room for a new beginning.
Faith that style can be a reflection of confidence and self-discovery.
Faith that love still wins.
Faith that sisterhood still matters.
Faith that becoming is a lifelong journey.
This summer, I invite you to do more than refresh your wardrobe.
Refresh your mindset.
Give yourself permission to pivot.
Celebrate your growth.
Honor your journey.
Love yourself deeply.
And trust that the woman you are becoming is worth every lesson, every challenge, and every beautiful new beginning that lies ahead.
With love,
Paulette
